Dress Codes
With warmer spring weather approaching and employees shedding their heavy jackets and winter hats for lighter attire, an employer may begin to think about revisiting its workplace policies regarding employee dress, grooming and personal appearance. To help with this, XpertHR provides a model Dress Code Policy that lets employees know what type of clothing they are permitted to wear to work. An employer also may want to consider implementing additional policies regarding business casual dress or summer Fridays, employee grooming, facial hair and jewelry and tattoos.
An important part of maintaining any workplace dress code is making sure that it is uniformly enforced and does not discriminate. XpertHR's Supervisor Briefing on dress codes and appearance policies in the workplace can assist supervisors with how to best implement the employer's dress code. Employers will also find useful information on how to deal with an employee who violates the dress code and how to deal with an employee who has a hygiene issue.

New on XpertHR
What's New This Week?
|
Are employers ever legally obligated to conduct an internal investigation?
Yes. When employers are notified of potential discrimination in the workplace, both federal and state anti-discrimination laws require employers to take action to address and correct the discrimination promptly. Further, health and safety laws like the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) require employers to address allegations of unsafe or unlawful practices in the workplace. Read more...

So exciting! From the Financial Times to the Daily Mail, and many other UK news outlets to boot, headlines throughout the UK recently showcased stunning survey results from our UK benchmarking colleagues. According to new research from XpertHR.co.uk and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), despite ongoing economic uncertainty, company directors and chief executives in the UK have enjoyed a bonus boom over the past 12 months. One of the more jaw-dropping findings was that Company Directors (including chief executives) have enjoyed pay increases almost twice the size of the average UK executive over the last year. I recommend the blog of my colleague, Michael Carty, for the details on these fascinating trends across the pond.
We will soon be reporting on our own recent survey results regarding HR roles and responsibilities in US workplaces. Stay tuned for some interesting findings and see how your HR department compares!
