Given the record-setting pace at which employees continue to file minimum wage and overtime lawsuits, it's more important than ever for HR to help employers comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act and related state laws. XpertHR offers a variety of tools to help, including a Liveflo workflow, which can help guide you in the classification of employees as exempt or nonexempt; the in-depth Employee Compensation chapter of our Employment Law Manual, which provides comprehensive analysis of wage and hour topics; and How Tos, which provide step-by-step advice on many of the most common FLSA tasks.

Today is September 11.
9/11. A date that stands alone in the annals of modern US history. A day that virtually everyone who was older than six remembers vividly; many of us watched or tried to find out the details of the horror while at work and struggled to make sense of the unbelievable with co-workers. A day that has had such a profound effect on the psyche of the United States - politics, military strategy, religious tolerance, and yes, for those in HR, workplace policies.
Eleven years ago, how many workplaces had policies and procedures addressing terrorism in the workplace? Discrimination and religious tolerance, travel safety, business continuity, emergency planning/ evacuation/emergency communications, training - the list of workplace issues that emerged or dramatically evolved due to the unfolding of the terrorist attacks can go on and on.
HR touches all aspects of the workplace and helps establish the policies and procedures to be prepared as best as possible as well as for responding to the aftermath. If you would like to review your existing procedures or training, or start anew, we have tools to help. You can start in our Risk Management section of the site. While we have so much more, you shouldn't miss our employee communications materials too, as the communications with employees before, during and after any untoward event has a profound impact.
